dr. C (Carmen) Longas Luque

Biography

Dr. Carmen Longas Luque is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Erasmus School of History, Culture, and Communication. Her doctoral research focused on the ways in which discourses of race/ethnicity are (re)constructed in Spanish sports media, particularly in the context of football. In addition to analyzing the content of these discourses, she also explored the production processes and audience receptions.

Dr. Carmen Longas Luque has led a research project examining the role of sports heroes, social media use, and a belongingness among Spanish and Dutch youth. Currently, her research investigates processes of inclusion and exclusion within esports culture in the Netherlands, with a specific focus on race/ethnicity and gender.

As a lecturer, she teaches courses on media systems, as well as quantitative and qualitative research methods, to both BA and MA students. She also supervises BA and MA theses.
