Biography

Emily Mannheimer is a lecturer at the Erasmus School of History, Communication and Culture. Her research focuses on negotiations of heritage, memory and identity in conflict and post-conflict societies.

Her doctoral research investigated how the tourism indusry in Northern Ireland becomes an arena of discussion about how the Troubles should (and shouldn't) be represented to a global audience, and how tourism is used to reimagine a Northern Irish identity in the post-conflict period.

Emily is part of the Erasmus Initiative ‘Vital Cities and Citizens’ which is concerned with making cities more healthy and inclusive places. Her research was supervised by prof. dr. Stijn Reijnders, prof. dr. Maria Grever and dr. Amanda Brandellero.

She supervises Bachelor and Master theses in the Department of Arts and Culture on topics of heritage.

Emily obtained her BA in International Development Studies at Portland State University with a Minor in Arabic Language. She also received an MSc in Cultural Anthropology at Universiteit Utrecht.
