Programme

- Nathan Ron, 鈥楨rasmus and the Jews: A Critical Revisit鈥

In this talk, Ron will present his revisionist research which subverts the traditional conception of Erasmus鈥 tolerance and a-Semitism enrooted by Shimon Markish鈥檚 influential Erasmus and the Jews. In doing so, Ron will argue against Han van Ruler鈥檚 review of Ron鈥檚 book Erasmus and the 鈥淥ther.鈥

- Han van Ruler, 鈥楨rasmus, anti-Semitism and the Course of History鈥

In this talk, Van Ruler will discuss some of Ron鈥檚 arguments, relate them to earlier debates in which Erasmus was linked to anti-Semitism and try to reassess the nature of Erasmus鈥 cultural preconceptions as well as the impact of his thought on later cultural history.
