On Coming Out Day we officially opened the rainbow path on our campus Woudestein. 鈥楨veryone is welcome at our university. We want everyone to feel free to be themselves. Everyone can love who they want to love and be proud of who they are.鈥 Our Vice-President of the Executive Board Ellen van Schoten, our Chief Diversity Officer Semiha Denkta艧 and initiator of this rainbow path Marit de Ridder performed the official opening act. Ellen van Schoten also announced that as of today students can - if they wish - share and alter their pronouns in Canvas.
Ellen van Schoten: 鈥淓veryone is welcome at our university and we are really proud to make it permanently visible on our campus through this rainbow path. I love to see that these kinds of initiatives come from all parts of our organisation. I want to thank Marit de Ridder for her idea, her work and her initiative. Something I鈥檓 very happy to announce on Coming Out Day: as of today students can - if they want - share and alter their pronouns in Canvas.鈥
Semiha Denkta艧: 鈥淟et鈥檚 celebrate that all of our different and unique talents make our university a stronger place. For it is our diverse backgrounds, perspectives, knowledge and experiences that have made our university the vibrant environment we are today. We want everyone to feel free to be themselves. Everyone can love who they want to love and be proud of who they are. Let this rainbow path not just be a symbol. We also want true action, constructive and open interactions and connections.鈥
Quote Marit de Ridder: 鈥淔or me, awareness is the main reason for realising a rainbowpath. In this way we show that everyone is welcome at the university. No matter who you are or what your sexual preference is. The path with all its colors is something very tangible. You see it every day on campus.鈥
