Biography

Arne van Lienden works as an assistant professor in Media & Journalism at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. His research centers around two central pillars: diversity and digitalization in media and journalism, with a frequent focus on sport media. Arne's research is characterized by using a critical lens to make sense of broader societal processes of inclusion and exclusion, often along the lines of race/ethnicity, sexuality and gender. In his doctoral research, he focused on representations of race/ethnicity in sports media in Poland. In addition, he was involved in similar research in other European countries, including the Netherlands. He has also conducted research on female football coaches from ethnic minority backgrounds and on media representations of athletes from the Caribbean part of the Dutch Kingdom.
